Our hearty congratulations go out to J. Gold for scoring the Craig Claiborne Distinguished Restaurant Reviews Award at Sunday’s James Beard Foundation Media Awards. Gold was rewarded for his L.A. Weekly stories spanning birria, mole, and Bistro LQ and his favorite hare. While the J.B.s otherwise had little love for L.A., we see another one of our deserving local restaurant critics added a commendation to his collection last night. At a ceremony in Australia, Brad A. Johnson, Angeleno’s restaurant reviewer and the travel editor for Modern Luxury, was awarded the “Best Critic” golden ladle at Le Cordon Bleu’s 2010 World Food Media Awards, the only global event of its kind. Johnson scored on three self-submitted L.A.-based reviews: his recap of a debaucherous repast at Animal, the night he swapped jail stories at Rivera, and the day he made us all question if the waiters at Gjelina were indeed high. Congrats to both of our favorite L.A. restaurant critics on their latest awards, and make sure to save mantle space for next year.
