Weve long wished that New Havens Frank Pepe would launch a pizza truck here, but instead of New Haven, well have to settle for New Hyde Park. And happily so. Eddies, which may not be quite as old as Pepes but is just as much of a hometown institution, will launch a Manhattan food truck on June 10. Director of operations Debbie Jones tells us the pizzerias owners have outfitted an old DHL truck with four small Bakers Pride ovens, to insure that the pies (made to order in about five minutes; no slices) will match the ones that come out of their 75-year-old restaurants ovens.
Customers will be able to order a sixteen-inch pie for $12.50 or a ten-inch bar pie for $6.50 (the latter is said to only have 270 calories its topped with skim-milk cheese and the crust, which comes in whole wheat for an extra dollar, isnt much thicker than a cracker). You can add whatever toppings youd like. After it gets a paint job next week, Eddies Pizza Truck will make the rounds in midtown and Wall Street.
