Moez Kaba and Bjorn Lundberg soft-opened Bite on Wednesday in the former home of West Hollywood’s Tango Grill. Coming just six weeks after Santa Monica’s unrelated Bite Bar and Bakery, Eater reports that Tango’s menu of empanadas, pasta, and steaks is mostly still intact, only now with the addition of more burgers, risotto, salads, and pasta, with all meat delivered daily and hand-trimmed in house. Unlike Joshua Skenes, Bite is not in a snit over your dietary restrictions, but offers gluten-free recipes and asks guests to speak up with special requests. So what’s new here?
The menu now sports some Swedish dishes and desserts that recall Lundberg’s heritage, as well as breakfast and weekend brunch, which goes heavy on the eggs in customizable omelets, scrambles, breakfast burritos and quesadillas, plus challah French toast and build-your-own pancakes. Though Gotham isn’t used as a hook here, Bite’s thin nook has a noticeable New York-fixation, decked out in exposed brick, plastic checkered tables, and a touristy poster of Times Square that makes the place look like Nolita’s Ray’s Pizza. With all dishes under $15, a Santa Monica Blvd-facing patio, and a casual feel in a central location, Bite has a strong chance of becoming an adorable staple in the neighborhood for a fast nibble in the morning or lingering over a glass of wine at night.
