Summer Bummer: Ralph’s Italian Ices Gets Creamed by Uncle Louie G

About a year ago, we brought word that Uncle Louie G had the audacity to open an outpost on the very same Williamsburg block as Ralph’s Famous Italian Ices, the chain that’s been around since 1928. “Ralph’s has lines down the block,” the operator of Uncle Louie G told us. “I don’t know why they’d be concerned.” Well, we were concerned, and with good reason, it turns out: Downtown Diaries reports that Ralph’s is gone and is turning into a deli. Of course, the chain still has locations in Staten Island, Long Island, Queens, and New Jersey, but if you’re looking for Coconut Cream in Brooklyn this summer, you’ll have to settle for Louie G’s Coconut Crave instead.
