Spork Demolition Is Up for Debate This Week

While the actual demolition of Spork (née KFC) and the beginning of construction on a 16-unit condo building on the site are probably a ways off, the topic arrives before the Planning Commission this week. There will be a new, 3,500-square-foot restaurant on the ground floor of the replacement building, and as Eater reported earlier, Spork’s owners plan to have first dibs on the new space, though they may create a new restaurant concept for it when the time comes.

According to the Planning Commission agenda for Thursday’s meeting, someone is appealing the “preliminary mitigated negative declaration,” which means that there’s a little controversy about how much impact the new project will have on the neighborhood. The topic is proposed for continuance until May 27th, so it sounds like Spork will be staying put for the foreseeable future.
