Next Government Target: Happy Meal Toys

First it was trans-fats, then it was sodium. Now Happy Meal toys may be in the healthy cross-hairs, reports the L.A. Times. Santa Clara’s Board of Supervisors is considering prohibiting the distribution of toys in any meal with more than 485 calories. That means you, Happy Meal! Legislators say the toys in association with fatty foods promotes obesity, but the California Restaurant Association is fighting for locals who disagree or don’t care, even releasing an ad depicting a handcuffed toddler clutching a stuffed animal. Meanwhile, we wonder: Would a Happy Meal without a toy really make anyone happy?
