Celebrate Prohibition Repeal Tonight

Why not commemorate April 7, the 77th anniversary of the repeal of Prohibition, at a bar that’s been around long enough to say it’s experienced both the ban and the breaking of it? Tonight, McGillin’s will offer free ‘fireplace-roasted” potatoes to all patrons and will serve Bluecoat gin martinis in teacups, just like Ma McGillin used to do during Prohibition. For beer drinkers, mugs of Victory Throwback Lager and McGillin’s 1860 IPA will cost just $1.50 a mug. Sip on one of those and ponder how little things have changed when it comes to drinking in Pennsylvania over the past eight decades. We still have speakeasies, they’re just combined with charter schools now. Ah, progress.
