What to Eat at Patina’s New Market Cafe

Photo: Patina

Patina is making breakfast and lunch at a tiny new Downtown diner called Market Cafe. Serving South Park’s AT&T; Center, it appears to be a similar brand-extension to casual and affordable lunch service that we’ve seen Mark Peel do at The Point and Kerry Simon at the similarly named L.A. Market. We are happy to report no dish goes over $10 while still bearing the stamp of Patina chefs Alec Lestr (who designed that Emmy’s after-party menu) and Gregg Wiele. The breakfast menu will be seasonal, with the local purveyors to prove it, though there is a burrito named “Jojo” for Joachim Splichal with cherry-wood smoked bacon, as well as quiche. What’s for lunch?

Lunch is stocked with aguas frescas, plus a salad bar, pre-made and fresh sandwiches like banh mi and those of the Thanksgiving leftovers cranberry sort, plus dishes like buttermilk fried chicken and braised short rib beef stroganoff. Pastries and sweets are being handled by Alain Vernault. Sounds a bit like a better, cheaper Lemonade, (which Market Cafe has too) albeit with a slimmer selection. Check out the full breakfast and lunch menus below.
