The weather forecast stinks this weekend, so what better to do than head inside for a dramatic contest that pits man against mollusk? We’re talking about the Oyster House’s first annual pro and amateur shucking contest on Saturday, which we’ll be judging with Inquirer food columnist and all-around badass Rick Nichols. If that’s not enough sea creature excitement to entice you out from the warmth of your house, how about tackling a taste of the 35 pound octopus that just arrived at Tinto? There’s also a grand opening celebration for Brew which includes some deals and discounts. Click through for details.

• A giant Alaskan octopus has washed ashore at Tinto. Chef de cuisine Dave Conn will be serving it starting Friday night at 5 p.m.; he’ll be preparing it Basque-style, poached in red wine vinegar, lemon and various aromatic spices, then sauteed and served with potato confit, smoked paprika and fiddlehead ferns. It will be available all weekend until it sells out. [Tinto]

• Oyster House’s shucking contest kicks off at 2 p.m. on Saturday - it’s $5 to attend the event and includes free oysters and a pay-as-you-go firkin of Dock Street’s West of Center Pale Ale. [Grub Street]

• Brew, the craft beer store that finally opened last week after a year of legal wrangling, will be celebrating all day. The first 25 customers of the day will get a 25 percent off coupon good for their next visit. From 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. they’ll be selling six-packs of PBC’s Newbold IPA for $6.50 plus tax. Then at 9 p.m., there will be a Newbold IPA toast to mark the grand opening - everyone there gets a free pint. Store hours on Saturday are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. [Grub Street]
