We stumbled upon Villa Taco in construction just a few doors down from the rebirth of Lawrence of India on Venice Blvd. in Culver City. Replacing the short-lived Diablos Tacos, Villa is a Mexican grill just a few weeks away from debuting. We don’t think this is related to the chain of Villa’s Tacos in the U.S. Southwest, and an awning foretells brunch, lunch, dinner, and churrasco, a term for grilled meats that we’ve come across more in Latin-European and South American-cooking than in Mexican. We’ll cross our fingers this is some sort of Brazilian-Mexican hybrid, unless Brasa simply hasn’t ever come back to the space for its banner. In any case, we’ll let you know when it opens and if it’s better than Diablos, which set the bar fairly low.
