Frances, Flour + Water, and Boulevard Top Beard Award National Finalists

San Francisco is representing big time on this year’s list of James Beard Award finalists, with three of the six Best New Restaurant nominees (Frances, Flour +Water, and RN74) and two of the five Outstanding Chef nominees (Gary Danko and Charles Phan) all hailing from the Bay. Also, we’ve got L.A. beat in the regional Best Chef category, with Michael Tusk at Quince, David Kinch at Manresa, and Ubuntu ex Jeremy Fox vying for the title against L.A.’s Michael Cimarusti and Matt Molina of Providence and Osteria Mozza, respectively.

Chron Rising Star chef Timothy Hollingsworth, the chef de cuisine at The French Laundry, scored a deuce with a Beard Rising Star Chef nod. Boulevard, and its owner Pat Kuleto, are finalists for Outstanding Restaurant and Restaurateur respectively. Gary Danko and A16 were both recognized for their wine service, and Michael Mina received a nod for Outstanding Service overall.

Also, we can’t neglect to mention that our brother blog, Grub Street New York, got a nod in the Food Blog category, and the Chron scored one as well for Best Newspaper Food Section.

Yes, San Francisco, the food world still knows you’re here.
