Always a fan of doing big things in small spaces, Canteen chef Dennis Leary is opening a bakery-takeout joint in a tiny space at 8 Trinity Place in the Financial District. The Chron’s Inside Scoop (now being co-written by ex-Eater man Paolo Lucchesi) reports that Leary has a slightly more ambitious plan for the new place, named Golden West, than at his other downtown sandwich venue, The Sentinel, and the new bakery will allow him to offer more baked goods at all his eateries.

The Leary empire is definitely in growth mode, with his takeover at the House of Shields in the works, too. And we can’t help but wonder what the menu at the House of Shields is going to look like, given the watering hole’s century-long booze focus. But now we know it will feature fresh-baked rolls, hopefully as delicious as those buttery wonders at Canteen.
