About Those Shake Shack Brooklyn Rumors …

After food blog At the Sign of the Pink Pig floated the idea that Shake Shack might be interested in replacing “a moderately well-known restaurant” (with a hidden terrace, near an entertainment center) that “was known to be closing its doors after half a dozen or so years,” a Grub Street commenter (and then Brownstowner) speculated that the blog was referring to the Thomas Beisl space, which is on the market. We received an independent tip which, though vague, gave the rumor some credibility, so we called the broker, Brian Meier at Prudential Douglas Elliman.

After initially saying he couldn’t comment on the deal, Meier admitted, “I don’t think anyone from Shake Shack is interested in moving forward on the space. In the beginning they showed a little bit of interest; I don’t know for certain whether they came down and looked at it.” (Union Square Hospitality hasn’t yet issued comment.) Meier says he’s in negotiation with two parties and will know more in the next weeks. As for Shake Shack Brooklyn, it looks like we’ll have to shift our attention to those Brooklyn Bridge Park rumors.
