Today in cocktails: Diner’s Journal reports that Audrey Saunders has parted ways with the tiki-themed Tar Pit bar in Los Angeles just two months after opening it (she and chef Mark Peel had disagreements about marketing). At PDT, Fork in the Road discovers that Audrey Saunders protégé and noted vodka-phobe Jim Meehan has relented and added a vodka cocktail to the menu. Meanwhile, similarly sacrilegious: On the New York tiki scene, Richard Boccato and Giuseppe Gonzalez reveal to Diner’s Journal that when their “New York City Tiki” bar Painkiller opens in March or April, they’ll be offering a piña colada in addition to “15 to 20 drinks, including some classic by tiki trailblazers like Don the Beachcomber and Trader Vic’s, as well as some original creations, and a ‘Scorpion Bowl’ menu.”

And over in Williamsburg, Eater reports that the guys from Macao and Employees Only have started building a Mediterranean-themed restaurant on Boriquen Place in called Lighthouse: “The restaurant will feature an oyster bar and will serve light fare and a large assortment of pickles.”
