East Side Company Bar has officially closed to make way for Dutch Kills’ tiki bar, Painkiller. Over in the East Village, we noticed that Cantina Latina was also closed last week. In fact, a Yelper noticed it shuttered on January 10. The restaurant’s outgoing message promises it will return on February 1. No one answered the phone today to tell us whether it did indeed reopen yesterday, but a rep for the restaurant says owner Lesly Bernard, who briefly battled the tax man at Permanent Brunch and just opened the Village Tart in Nolita (reviewed today by Food in Mouth), has “something in the works” for the place. After opening it as yakitori joint Mr. Jones and then turning it Latin, is Bernard going to give it yet another identity?
