The Chron Is Set to Expand Into the Food Blogosphere

We mentioned earlier the departure of Eater editor Paolo Lucchesi (whose swan song there is today), and now Michael Bauer reveals just where Paolo is headed: The Chron is looking to expand/update their online restaurant coverage with a new, as-yet-unnamed daily restaurant site, of which Paolo will be in charge. Bauer’s blog, Between Meals, will be rolled into the new site, and Paolo will also take the helm of the 20-year-old Inside Scoop column. Paolo told us that while he’s loved cutting his teeth at Eater, he’s happy to be moving on to the large media organization, and to work on something brand new.

Bauer says that the new site will be due out in “a few weeks,” but we’re guessing from past experience launching new websites that we won’t see anything before May.

In any event, our hearty congratulations to Paolo, and we look forward to both the face-lift to SFGate’s food section — which hasn’t seen a ton of change over the last decade — and to observing Paolo’s mentorship with the Bay Area’s pre-eminent critic, Mr. Bauer.
