• The Bannos-Harris Purple Pig “single-handedly turned a restaurant dead zone into the unlikeliest food destination of 2010,” says David Tamarkin. He’s unabashedly a fan — particularly of the goat-cheese-and-squash arancini are “in an earthy sage pesto that’s so good most people have to close their eyes for a second while they savor it.” [TOC]

• Phil Vettel’s review of Sun Wah Bar-B-Q is basically a gimme — is there anyone who doesn’t love this restuarant? — but for newbies it’s a good primer on what to order: Peking duck (the whole shebang; order ahead) and the off-menu Mike’s Chicken. [Tribune]
