Pitfire Pizza Places its Pepita Pies in Culver

Paul Hibler and David Sanfield just opened a radical new location of Pitfire Artisan Pizza on Washington in Culver City, the fourth in a chain stretching through N. Hollywood, Downtown, and Westwood. Pitfire has given SoCal’s self-hating pizza critics a solid slice to choke chew on, adding slow-food philosophies, picky organic toppings, inspired pumpkin/pepita and “green eggs and ham” pies, micro beers, steak paninis, and homemade cookies to a casual pizza parlor.

Taking over a crumbling Shakey’s site, Intelligentsia Silver Lake and Lou-designer Barbara Bestor has returned to The Pit to craft this space, which features a glass wall that opens to the outdoors. There’s also an olive grove and edible garden with tomatoes and herbs that will eventually find their way into your pie, baked by Mugnaini wood ovens. Stay tuned for Pitfire’s next stop. 12924 Washington Blvd. Culver City. 424-835-4088.
