Though rumors last fall had Michael Schlow looking to open an Alta Strada outpost in D.C., the genial chef is currently in New York scouting locations. “I’m looking in the Meatpacking District, West Village, Union Square, Tribeca — basically it’s 23rd St. and below”, Schlow told Grub Street on Sunday at a benefit for the Hungry in America Project at Colicchio & Sons. “All my family’s in New York and New Jersey, and I’m the only one up in Boston. If the right project came along, I would do something, absolutely.” What kind of restaurant he’ll open depends on the space: “You walk into a place and say, ‘hey, this would make a good steakhouse,” or ‘this would be a good little Italian family-style place.’”
