We found ourselves against a brick wall when we first heard of some place called Haymarket Brewing opening up in the West Loop — turns out it’s the new project from Pete Crowley, soon-to-be late of Rock Bottom Brewery, launching in conjunction with pal John Neurauter. MetroMix has the scoop on the details.

Like for example: the place’s massive size (seating for 300, plus sidewalk), the feel (“casual and pubby with autumnal colors”), the brew list (classic Belgians and contemporary Americans, plus up to a dozen house beers), the menu (standard brewery fare, beefed out with housemade sausages and plenty of vegetarian options), and the name — it’s an homage to Haymarket Square and its accompanying labor riot.

Adding to the awesome, Chuck Sudo at Chicagoist notes that “the centerpiece of the pub will be a walk through kitchen and brewery that leads to a ‘drinking and writing’ theater,” and that “600 square feet downstairs will be allocated for a barrel room for aging and blending.” Crowley and crew are aiming for a summer opening.
