One less place to get Blue Bottle coffee

The first soldier has fallen in the Westside’s gourmet label coffee wars. Days after we added another upstart to the neighborhood’s lengthening list comes LAT/Daily Dish’s news that Equator Books, and its new offshoot, Equator Café, closed Sunday. Very sad news for lovers of gorgeous books and LP records. Possibly sadder news for the soul of Abbot Kinney. Almost, but not really quite as sad for Blue Bottle Coffee fans, who now have one fewer place to drain their pockets on a miniscule cup of upscale mud. Probably pretty good news for Cielo and their new shrine to 49th Parallel.
