Oh rapturous day! Much beloved taqueria El Pelon, which was destroyed in the massive Peterborough Street fire of January 2009, will reopen across the street from Boston College, reports BostonTweet. Owner Jim Hoben confirms, telling us that the second coming of El Pelon is set to open in mid-March at 2197 Commonwealth. “Right now, we have about three weeks of construction left and then some final permitting. Everything will be exactly the same: same menu, same prices, same vendors, same employees, we even managed to save some of the decor from the wreckage.”

El Pelon’s Brighton location, however, doesn’t mean the taqueria has abandoned its plans to reopen on Peterborough. Hoben tells us they have a deposit down on the space and hope construction can begin shortly. Wondering what happened to the Beacon Street El Pelon announced in July? Unfortunately, that deal fell through.
