Sunset Strip Gets Borracho

Borracho Cantina soft-opened last Friday on Sunset Blvd., west of LaCienega. The restaurant comes from owner Tony Riviera, who shuttered his Tony’s Steakhouse to make room for this tequila bar and modern Mexican eatery. The concept, full of tequila girls, T.V. screens for sports, twice-a-day happy hour, and drinks like “The Horny Margarita” sounds scarily like a tourist’s trip to Cancun, which should make it an ideal fit for Sunset Strippers tired of the meat marketed at Saddle Ranch needing a new scene. The food sounds more unique, with dips into duck tacos with pecan mole and pomegranate guacamole with queso fresco. Urban Daddy says Riviera plans to include every tequila worth drinking and that regulars will earn rewards like personalized shot glasses, free tequila, and private tastings. A website is forthcoming and Borracho will participate in DineLA’s restaurant week. Borracho is soft-open now at 8570 W Sunset Blvd. 310-289-8809.
