Could Someone Please Open a Pirate-Themed Ice Bar in Philly?

Ice… it’s so hot right now. Bars are shelling out for fancy Japanese ice machines and hewing shards from giant blocks of the stuff, but how about an actual bar made of ice? And how about a bar made of ice with a pirate theme? You’ll have to set your sails to the west to see it, but a Pennsylvania restaurant owner has constructed just such a masterpiece.

The owner of Damenti’s in Mountain Top, PA built a 40-person bar made from 50 tons of ice outside of the restaurant, according to the Times Leader. It features “a Roman arched ceiling, pirate-themed carvings created by world-class sculptors, and ice cannons” plus a skull-and-crossbones fireplace carved into the ice. In addition to beer, wine and Eskimo pies, they’ll also serve “grog served in bone-shaped ice luges.”

Since Mountain Top is about an hour and fifteen minutes west of Philly, we’re hoping someone will decide to put up one of these here in town (not you, Stephen Starr). How about turning the Magic Garden at Silk City into an ice bar for the winter? Or putting one right in front of City Hall when the Bavarian Christmas Village is over?

Aye, Matey, This Is Cool [Times Leader]
