Boston’s Vegetarian-Friendliness Might Be Overstated

A spate of recent vegetarian, vegan, and raw food restaurant openings led Devra First to proclaim Boston a “health food mecca” in today’s Globe. While the introduction of spots like Peace O’Pie, Grezzo, and Wheeler’s are doubtless great news for the Hub’s meat-free set, it’s worth noting that all these places are pretty pricey (Peace O’Pie charges $18.99 a pie). It’s hard not to imagine that a true health food destination city (like, say, San Francisco) would have more veggie-friendly food available at all price points. Do you think Boston is a vegetarian haven or would you like to see more options?
