It’s been kind of a banner year in Philly in the Food TV department. We had contenders on the Next Food Network Star and Top Chef (Katie Cavuto Boyle, Jen Zavala and Jen Carroll) and our own Jose Garces was crowned an Iron Chef. Is it any surprise that there are now burblings about Top Chef being filmed here?
Tom Colicchio said in an interview with the Wall Street Journal that he thinks Philly’s having a “culinary moment” right now and it’d be great to film here (he also mentions considering opening a restaurant here, if there were any development money to be had). In an interview with Meal Ticket, Stephen Starr says he’s also “pushed the producers” of Top Chef to investigate the wonders of Philly. It may be hard to get those producers to appreciate the wonders of Philly - in the finale they introduced Starr by his two New York restaurants, but neglected to mention the twelve he runs in Philly.
