• Pinch-hitting for Michael Bauer today, Carol Ness files a two-star “meh” on Oakland’s Spice Monkey. “My advice is to stick with the snacks, salads and sandwiches, which arrive in generous portions, usually pretty basic but satisfying.” [SF Gate]

• Paul Reidinger pays a visit to CODA, the Mission’s jazz supperclub. “It’s the visual equivalent of a promising dish that’s lacking a final dash of some seasoning,” but “simple seekers after food won’t be disappointed.” [SFBG]

• Matthew Stafford takes the safe path considering this week’s weather, paying a visit to Fish & Farm, where Chad Newton’s “intricate yet satisfying combinations ideal for sustenance and general good cheer” make it “just the sort of place you crave after a strenuous day of elbowing your way through the holiday shoppers at nearby Union Square.” [SF Weekly]
