Last night saw the debut of Bloody Bill’s in West Hollywood, the pop-up partnership between restaurateur Michael Della Femina and chef William Annesley, former chef-owner of Tangier and Oasis. Libertine, Charlie Chaplin’s former home on Sunset, was slapped with a deep shade of romance, single votives burning on low tables and ambient Spanish dub curated by Karina Annesley, who runs the front of the house a la Krissy Lefebvre at LudoBites. “Bloody” Bill, a burly Briton who looks fun to pound a pint with, kicked off with traditional tapas served in non-traditional ample portions. He tells Grub Street, “I’m going hunting in Louisiana for the holidays and whatever I catch, I’m bringing back here in January to cook nose-to-tail. So the menus will change depending on what I feel like cooking.” After last night, Bill will return to Libertine on January 14th for weekly dinners through February and then possibly bring Bloody’s elsewhere, while searching for ground to break on Fatty’s, which Della Femina promises us will be “a completely fun” juke-joint Cajun spot with empire aspirations.
