With this much slush and snow on the ground, you’ll forgive us for indulging in a summer fantasy. We’re sitting on the back deck of the Rockaway Lobster House, perched over Jamaica Bay, a lovely view of the Cross Bay Bridge to our left, a piña colada in hand. Alas, it’s not to be — after scrapping plans to change its name to Summer Winds, the Lobster House has closed and is for sale. Meaning, the best view of the bay (on the Rockaway side) now belongs to the Wharf, the bar and grill that’s hidden behind a gas station. Or, on the other side of the bridge in Broad Channel, the Bayview Restaurant & Lounge (reserve your boat slip now!). Sad about the Lobster House, but as the motto of the bait shop below it goes: “The Sea Gives … the Sea Takes Away.”
