User’s Guide: What to Do on New Year’s Eve

It’s time to wade through the prix-fixes, the truffle supplements and the champagne toasts to see just what kind of options are out there for New Year’s Eve. Restaurants all around the city are putting out special menus for the evening and we have details, directly from the restaurants themselves. It’s one of the priciest nights of the year, so we’ll let them sell it to you. Click through to see who’s serving what on December 31st, from casual Koo Zee Doo in NoLibs to the restaurants of the Garces empire to sweet little Le Virtu in South Philly.

NEW YEAR’S EVE

Alison two: Ring in the New Year with our 4-course dinner, including at least four choices for every course. Optional wine pairings available. First seating (before 7 p.m.) $50. During the second seating, each guest will receive a complimentary glass of bubbly and we’ll celebrate with hats, noise makers and streamers! Second seating $65. Amada: Three tasting menus will be offered with the choice of a $60, $75 or $90 option. An optional Wine Pairing will also be offered for $40. Reservation times are available for all party sizes from 5 until 11 p.m.; a credit card number is required. Menu. [Amada]

APO Bar + Lounge: APO is hosting a Gatsby-themed “shindig.” Tickets are $100 per person, which gets you open bar and butlered hors d’oeuvres from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m., live music and a midnight champagne toast. Bar Ferdinand: Chef Michael Thomas has created a special six-course menu to ring in the New Year. An optional Wine Pairing will for $25 and a limited a la carte menu will also be offered. A $55 5 p.m. seating along with a $75 seating offered at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. will be available. Live Flamenco Dancing and a complimentary Cava toast at midnight. Reservations are recommended. Bistrot La Minette Seating throughout the evening until 11:30 p.m. Diners can enjoy the regular menu with specials created by Chef Peter Woolsey and a complimentary champagne toast at midnight. Specials include house-made pasta, creme fraiche, shaved black truffles, beef tenderloin, seared
foie gras, thyme jus, port reduction, roasted Brussels sprouts,

Blackfish: Celebrate New Year’s Eve with Chef Chip Roman at Blackfish BYOB. Diners with reservations between 4:30pm - 6:00pm can enjoy 3 courses for $55 or 4 courses for $75, plus a complimentary glass of Champagne. For reservations beginning at 6:30pm, 4 courses will be offered for $75 and will also include a complimentary glass of Champagne. Tax and gratuity are not included. Chifa: Sample Chef Garces’ tempting menu combining the flavors and ingredients of both Asian and Latin cuisines with the choice of a $55, $75 or $95 tasting menu. Reservation times are available for all party sizes from 5 until 11 p.m.; a credit card is required. Menu. [Chifa]

fish: Fish is hosting a “black and white” truffle dinner, $110 per person or $150 per person with paired wines, plus tax and tip. Menu. [fish]

Fork: Celebrate New Year’s Eve 2009 at Fork. Chef Feury will offer guests a $65 three-course prix-fixe menu. Reservations are recommended and being accepted from 5:30 until 11 p.m. [Fork]

McGillin’s: Be part of the oldest New Year’s Eve celebration in Philadelphia & the kick-off of our 150th Anniversary! We’re getting a limited quantity of cask-conditioned McGillin’s 1860 IPA, plus sparkly surprises & decorations. Deejay. $5 cover. [McGillin’s]

Meme: Chef David Katz welcomes guests to celebrate New Year’s Eve with a special five-course prix fixe menu for $55, as well as special $5 glasses of sparkling wine all night. The menu will feature Griggstown quail, braised short ribs and a selection of cheeses from Cowgirl Creamery. There’s a chilled seafood platter for an additional $15, which will include east and west coast oysters, clams and Florida stone crabs. [Meme]

Noble: A four-course menu will be prepared and will include Red Wine-Braised Short Ribs served with Sweet Onion Rice Pudding. Optional Wine, Beer and Cocktail Pairings will be available at an additional cost. Reservations will be accepted for a $50 6 p.m. seating along with a $75 seating offered at 8:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. [Noble]

Oyster House: Oyster House will offer guests a $55 prix-fixe, four-course menu. Choices will include: Roasted Oysters with Crème Fraiche and Caviar; Clams Cataplana with Braised Pork Belly, Kale and Crispy Potato; Truffle Crusted Seared Scallop with Celery Root Puree; Split Grilled Lobster with herb butter; Rack of Lamb with Ricotta Gnocchi and Swiss Chard. R2L: The not-yet-open-to-the-public Daniel Stern project atop Liberty Two will host a $150 per head New Year’s Eve party with open bar, hors d’oeuvres, DJ and music. Reservations required - see website for more details. [R2L]

Southwark: The Queen Village restaurant will offer a five course chef’s tasting for $80, or $110 with wine, plus tax and tip. Seatings between 6:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Menu. [Southwark]

Square 1682: The restaurant in the Hotel Palomar is offering two New Year’s Eve seatings. The first, at 6:00 p.m., is for a six-course tasting menu by Chef Guillermo Tellez ($65) and the second, at 9:00 p.m., will be an eight-course tasting menu with a complimentary midnight toast ($95). Supper: Husband-and-wife team, Mitch and Jennifer Prensky invite guests to sample their local, farm-direct cuisine with a $78 five-course menu. Some of the menu choices will include: Deviled Egg with Black Truffle; Celery Root Soup with Capers, Raisins and Brown Butter Bread Crumbs; Pan Roasted Sea Bass with Blini, Gin Pickled Beets, Salmon Roe and Tonic Butter; Fig Glazed Quail with Bacon, Red Cabbage, Chestnuts and Sage; Filet of Beef and Braised Oxtail with Blue Cheese, Glazed Baby Vegetables, and Port Wine Glaze; and Chocolate Blackout Cake with Mint Chip Ice Cream and Brandied Cherries. Tinto: For New Year’s Eve, Chef Dave Conn has created a special four-course tasting menu, priced at $85 that will be offered in addition to the a la carte menu. Reservation times are available for all party sizes from 5 until 11 p.m.; a credit card is required. Menu. [Tinto]

Varga Bar: The Wash West spot will offer a five-course menu, with each course paired with a different Dogfish Head brew. Menu. $75 plus tax and tip. [Varga Bar]

XIX Cafe and Restaurant: Enjoy a three-course specialty menu in the Café at XIX. You will select your courses from a variety of offerings, including an array of action stations and displays on the Café’s beautiful center table. There are two seatings available, 5:00pm - 6:00pm and 8:00pm - 9:00pm. $75.00 per person plus taxes and service charges. This package includes one glass of champagne with dinner and inclusion into the Rose Garden Dance Party. In the restaurant, enjoy a four-course chef’s tasting menu. Selections of seasonal seafood and fresh seasonal ingredients will be part of Chef’s menu. Xochitl: For New Year’s Eve, Chef Dionicio Jimenez has created a special four-course menu for $60 per person. Some of the menu choices will include: Atun con Hidago de Pato, Tuna Ceviche with Foie Gras and Figs; Sopa de Fideos, Mexican Noodle Soup with Monkfish Liver; Calamar Relleno, Squid stuffed with Chorizo and Lentils; Langostinos con Hongos, Langostines with Mushrooms, Quince and Vanilla; Falsan con Salsa de Trufa y Hongos, Roasted Pheasant with Porcinis and Truffle Salsa; Bacalao Cocinado Dentro de la Calabazza, Pumpkin-baked Cod with Pumpkin Seed Pesto; and Tamale con Chocolate, Fried Chocolate Tamale with Fruit Salsa. Zahav: Chef Michael Solomonov has created a special Mesibah Gedolah Menu, or “Big Party” menu, to be served on New Year’s Eve. The menu price will be $65 per person, excluding tax, beverages and gratuity. Reservations are recommended and will be taken from 5 until 11 p.m. Menu. [Zahav]
