Amber to Go From Smokers’ Paradise to ‘Cocktail Club’

While food gets more and more casual, drinking culture in SF is getting fancier by the day. Case in point: Stalwart, industry-friendly bar Amber, where smoking was all but encouraged, will be closing after New Year’s Eve and getting a makeover as a comfy, smoke-free “cocktail club.” The change is likely intended to compete with nearby Blackbird, which has been sucking up a lot of the lower Castro’s business. Though everyone who enjoys a handmade, market-fresh, artisanal cocktail will applaud the change, smokers the city over will be mourning this loss well into the new year.
