Many a restaurant door is swinging open for the first time in the San Gabriel Valley. First Fleur de Lys Patisserie opened last week on Atlantic Blvd., selling freshly baked cakes and pastries alongside coffee with a heavy French accent in Monterey Park. Although they do take-out specialty cakes too, Fleur de Lys invites people to sit a spell over free wi-fi in a small, cutesy bakery and cafe space.

Elsewhere, Pasadena Real Estate with Brigham Yen reports that Peruvian Choza Mama’s opening has been matched with a food truck called The Place, decked out in a graffiti-style wrap reminiscent of the once ubiquitous Restitution Press artwork. This truck is brand new and committed to serving Pasadena a selection of foods from breakfast burritos to sandwiches.

In the works for the area is Pappa Rich, the self-proclaimed “father of all buns” who will replace The Daily Grind. Having never heard of this bun-daddy, we can only hope it’s an import of Pappa Rich from Kuala Lumpur, and will bring us authentic Malaysian eats. And while Bob’s Big Boy plans its return to an old Baja Fresh and Baskin Robbins will add a new store itself, a more upscale appearing restaurant called The Meridian is coming to Paseo Colorado, planned for next March. Options for all abound.
