Martin Cate Plans Classic Cocktails at Jardiniere Tiki Dinner

The hotly anticipated Smuggler’s Cove won’t open for another few weeks at least, but Martin Cate will be showing off his cocktail-making skills at Jardiniere when he fills in as a guest bartender at a special tiki-themed prix fixe next Monday, Nov. 9 ($45 for three courses, including wine). “The drinks are still being finalized but they’ll all be historic, long-classic exotic cocktails. I’m not showcasing anything new for this. I might end up with one of my drinks, but it will probably be an older drink,” Cate told Grub Street on the phone today. As for the rums he’ll be using, “they’re going to be interesting, but they’re not going to be hyper-obscure rums. I have to be conscious about getting some selections that Jardiniere can actually sell afterward.” This will probably be the public’s last chance at drinking a Martin Cate cocktail before Smuggler’s Cove opens. Cate hasn’t put a hard date on that opening but he’s trying to get the doors open by the end of the month. Expect a hard opening date by early next week. Meanwhile, check out the Jardiniere menu below, and get your reservation before it books up.
