Deep Izakaya: Not Open, Not Gone

Over on Church Street, Deep Izakaya stopped serving only a few weeks after its initial opening, supposedly because it’s getting ready to open for real. According to Noe Valley SF, the place has been dark since October 1. Remember, they’ve been having a little trouble with the liquor license. Somebody protested it, and a spokesman with ABC said a hearing still hasn’t been scheduled to resolve the objection. Perhaps it wasn’t profitable to stay open without alcohol sales? NVSF suggests some alternative reasons for the closing: “Could it have something to do with the building being for sale? Another possible reason for the closing is the note mentions chef Thomas Weibull’s ‘upcoming nuptials.’”
