Where David Ortiz Goes for Heat

Between slugging for the Sox, launching his own line of Big Papi En Fuego hot sauces, and opening Big Papi’s Grille out in Framingham, David Ortiz is a pretty busy man, but he still took some time to share his favorite spicy dishes in Boston with Grub Street. His picks, along with a recipe for Big Papi’s Grille’s chimichurri burgers, are below. Are there any other restaurants you’d recommend to the heat-seeking Big Papi?

Merengue: “Makes me smile every time I walk in, thinking of the Dominican Republic — not a bad dish on the menu.”

Jose’s: “When I am in Cambridge and get the spicy craving, I like the traditional Mexican dishes at Jose’s. The camarones a la diabla is a fave.”

Flames Restaurant II: “Jerk chicken is delicious and the rice and beans with coconut milk has great flavor.”

Honorable Mentions: Border Cafe for the Cajun crawfish étouffée, Blue Ribbon BBQ in Newton, and Big Papi’s Grille, “of course!”
