When Life Gives You Bad Beer, Make Bierbrand

Recently the folks over at Metropolitan Brewing found themselves with thirty barrels of substandard Copper Dynamo Lager. Sadly, they didn’t ask us what to do with the stuff, for we would have been happy to drink, err dispose, of it for them. They did the next best thing though and asked their neighbor, Koval Distillery, Chicago city proper’s only boutique distillery if they could use the stuff. The folks at Koval wanted to brew a bierbrand or “whisky beer” for some time, and the uncarbonated Copper Dynamo provided a great opportunity. They distilled 300 bottles from the beer, which resulted in an elixir that drinks like a spirit but tastes and smells like a hoppy, malty beer. Those who remember the rhyme “beer before liquor, never sicker” may wonder what drinking them simultaneously in a bierbrand means? Well, you can find out by picking up some of the limited run at Binny’s.[Local Beet]
