Vic’s Owner Evicted by Vic’s Founder

San Carlos stalwart Vic’s coffee shop closed this week when its owners were evicted from the building — which is owned by the restaurant’s founder. Vic Balushian and his brother Russ opened the restaurant in 1976 and sold it to Iman Azad last year, retaining ownership of the building, the San Jose Mercury News reported. Azad and his company, Chaz Holdings, Inc., agreed to pay $12,500 a month in rent to the Balushians, but fell behind by three months and the Balushians cracked down. San Carlos residents, meanwhile, are all sorts of bummed out. “It’s just sad. I took my kids there, and that was fun, to have breakfast with them when they were growing up, go there after church on Sundays,” Chamber of commerce CEO Sheryl Pomerenk told the Merc. But unless Azad and the Balushians work things out, the restaurant will stay closed.
