Susan Feniger and Mary Sue Milliken are taking their Too Hot Tamales act live this Saturday, giving a cooking demonstration and lunch at their pan-Latin restaurant Ciudad. The chefs will focus on Caribbean recipes, as well as mojitos, so let’s hope the rain disappears before turning Jimmy Buffet-style good times into a dark Hemingway-like stumble through La Bodeguita. $75 buys a seat to watch the ladies cook and exchange some jokey banter, as well as a recipe book.
But really, you’re here to eat the gals’ food firsthand and get a lil’ tipsy. Coconut crusted crab cakes, a rum braised beef, and peppered upside down pineapple cake are the big bites here, while hand-muddled and blood orange mojitos make use of Zaya rum for an extra gourmet touch. Reservations are made at (213) 486-5171 and the Susan and Mary Sue’s menu is below for your consideration.
