Jose Garces Continues Flirting With New York

If repeating a rumor makes it true, look for Philly “It” chef Jose Garces to plant his toque in Manhattan sometime soon. The Next Iron Chef contestant told the Post earlier this month that he may open a restaurant here. During a recent visit with Grub Street at his burger-and-bourbon temple, Village Whiskey, Garces didn’t didn’t offer a time line, but did ID the name of his potential New York outpost: “If I do anything, it will be an Amada,” he said, adding that a New York venture wouldn’t happen till after his new place, a bakery and charcuterie concept, opens in Philadelphia in December. Philadelphia magazine has referred to Amada as a “crown jewel,” and if the reaction to Garces’s food by his fellow Iron Chef hopefuls are any indication, he’s one Philly visitor we’ll be happy to have.
