Last year the Reader’s Food Chain leaked the winners of LTHForum’s Great Neighborhood Restaurant awards, and this year Sula spills yet again. Among the newly designated will be goat mecca Birreria Zaragosa, in-house-everything locavore champs Mado, and — sure to come under fire, or raise eyebrows, or at least give rise to hefty argument — Great Lake.

Of particular note with the Great Lake nod is the fact that, as Sula notes, the restaurant was passed over for a GNR last year due to “difficulty in scoring one of its magical pizzas.” While no one’s arguing that the top-notch food and familial ownership don’t adhere to the GNRs’ standards, it is curious that a restaurant disqualified in part for its long lines a year ago has now magically qualified despite the fact that, post-Alan Richman, wait times can get as high as four hours, with folks traveling from all over the country for a taste of the magical pie.

The GNR awards’ official announcement will be next Monday, October 19, at Marie’s Pizzeria & Liquors.
