Kogi founder Roy Choi is teaming up with South Asian food expert Robert Danhi to introduce a “Demystifying the Asian Grocery Store” tour on October 24th. The duo will lead four one-hour tours, restricting the groups to only ten people at a time, through A-Grocery Warehouse in Echo Park, one of L.A.’s best stocked Asian markets. Tastings will be conducted in the aisles, while Choi and Danhi elaborate on the market itself and the various ingredients and how they are used. Following the tours, Kogi will set up at 6 p.m. to serve one of Danhi’s favorite recipes, Thai Tamarind coconut bites with peanut, a sweet called miang khum, which will be open to anyone who shows up. The tours are $40 and include a copy of Danhi’s Southeast Asian Flavors. Alice from Kogi says that this is part of a three-part guest series in conjunction with the owner of Jitlada Thai restaurant. Reservations can be made for the 10, 12, 1, and 3 o’clock tours at (310) 648-7970.
