To combat state budget cuts, Chaya will be L.A.’s first restaurant to “adopt” schools through C-CAP, the program serving high school students interested in the field of culinary arts. Chaya has arranged to give students at three schools (Westchester, West Adams, and Hollywood) educational lectures from its executive chefs, as well as opportunities for kids to shadow workers at the restaurant for hands-on training.

Last Thursday, Chaya’s executive chef Shigefumi Tachibe prepared tuna tartare for the students of Hollywood High’s culinary arts program, also issuing them a recipe challenge for fall. Tachibe says of the C-CAP partnership, “we really want to help students get the culinary education and training they need to become executive chefs over the next 25 years,” slyly mentioning the number of years that Chaya is celebrating for their presence in Los Angeles.

In order to adopt more schools to this program in the face of statewide financial stress, Chaya is having a benefit party this Sunday at their Beverly Hills restaurant to coincide with its 25th Anniversary. Entry is open to the public and only costs $25, which includes a whole gargantuan assortment of things to eat, from raw bar and sushi menu items passed around, to full plates available on the prix-fixe menu. The full details of the night’s edible offerings are below, while reservations can be made on Chaya’s website to support C-CAP on Sunday evening.
