With Cru corked from imperfect payment of rent, wine-focused diners can turn to several events this month. Eleven Madison Park, Tabla, and the Modern participate in California Wine Month with vintner-hosted dinners on September 15, starting at 7 p.m. The $130 Eleven Madison event will score a prime table in the wake of a four-star review, but go for love of Sonoma and Santa Barbara wines. Only two courses on the menu come from the kitchen: seared scallops with sweet-corn velouté, and roasted Black Angus beef. Old-world proponents would do better to buy their way into Babbo on September 14, for a vertical Barolo tasting with visiting wine-maker Marco Parusso. At $495 a head, the Vintage Babbo is more than three times the price of EMP but includes tax, tip, an extravagant meal, and a showcase of vintages from Monforte d’Alba and Castiglione di Falletto, starting from 1997.
