Some of the best tables in the city aren’t even saved for VIPs. But of course some are. The Chronicle’s Stacy Finz today explores a few of the hottest spots within the hottest joints in town. That stump in the Moss Room? Its commanding view and unique look make it the best table in the house, even if it does put off a bit of a Country Bears Jamboree vibe. It’s not even reserved for VIPs. On the other hand, you probably have to be a guest of Willie Brown to score the best table at Le Central Bistro. The former mayor has the old Herb Caen spot on lockdown most nights. Still, with a little perseverance and luck, you can often score a good table whether or not you’re anything special. To us, the best table in the city is the one way out at the end of the pier at Red’s Java House, where you can see a great view of the Embarcadero, the Bay Bridge, and whatever ship is visiting, but you’re usually far enough from the Golden Gate so that you miss the fog.
