Two New Brews: Chava Cafe, Julius Meinl III

This week sees the opening of two more additions to our blossoming non-Starbucks-coffee scene: on the higher end, Julius Meinl adds a third location to its Chicago mini-empire, though as TOC notes the newcomer (at 1414 West Irving Park Rd.) focuses its non-coffee offerings on pastries and other sweet delights. Less European and more Seattle-inspired is Uptown’s Chava Cafe, which opened yesterday. They’re brewing Intelligentsia beans on a Clover machine, and co-owner Eddie Hwang (a NoMI vet) is in charge of the savory offerings.
