Tavern Trio: Patty & Bun, Henry Public, and Thistle Hill

A sign outside of Patty & Bun, coming soon to 63 West Eighth Street, near Sixth Avenue, declares it an “Authentic American Tavern,” but when we looked inside last week, it had a sleek modern décor. However, Andrea Strong has news of a couple of genuine throwback projects — Cobble Hill’s Henry Public will be a “saloon in the style of old-world Brooklyn” from the owners of Brooklyn Social. It opens in October, with a grass-fed beef burger from Orwashers, a turkey-leg sandwich, and housemade pickles. And when Thistle Hill Tavern opens in the South Slope in December or January, David Massoni of ’inoteca and Mike Burkett of punk band NOFX will oversee an as-yet-unnamed female chef preparing “robust regional seasonal cuisine in a very laid-back, turn-of-the-century tavern setting.”
