Open Today: Beckett’s Public House

The literary-minded folks who brought us the Irish pub Wilde (that’d be Oscar) have moved east down Belmont and taken over the former Belly’s. It’s now Beckett’s Public House (think playwright Samuel), a similarly conceptualized offshoot that espouses Wilde’s philosophy of beer and comfort food in an atmosphere of welcoming upscale pubbishness. The menu that ranges from the traditional (bangers and mash, chicken pot pie) to the beer-friendly (a “blue on blue” burger that dresses a blue cheese bun with blue cheese sauce) to the higher-minded (cedar-planked salmon to go with your black-and-tan?). The pub opens tonight, and by tomorrow it’ll probably seem like it’s been there forever.
