McDonald’s Searching For America’s Next Top Potato

Potato growers are scrambling to develop a new strain of potato for McDonald’s to use for french fries. McDonald’s investors want a spud that will help them cut back on chemical use and be more ecologically sustainable, since the chain’s current top fry potato, the Russet Burbank, requires large quantities of water and heavy pesticide applications. Thus far, a decent replacement potato is proving awfully hard to come by. [AP]
