Chinatown has shrunk just a little bit now that a hole-in-the-wall dumpling joint has been replaced by Welcome to India, but preservationists can rest assured that the space that once belonged to Good Dumpling House will be replaced by … Grand Bo Ky. Language barriers prevented us from discovering whether the endeavor is owned by the folks over at the beloved Bo Ky on Bayard, but since their signs are pretty much the same, it’s a very safe bet. Robin Raisfeld and Rob Patronite have praised Bo Ky’s “tremendous soup, in size, flavor, and content.” You can see the current location’s menu here, and Viet World Kitchen has a nice primer on the difference between hu tieu noodle soup (Bo Ky’s specialty) and the more familiar pho. No word on when exactly the Grand Street location will open (there are still construction permits posted), but it looks like any day now.
