The Pizza Stone, Brought To You By Pat Bruno And Julia Child

Things we knew: Sun-Times restaurant reviewer Pat Bruno invented the pizza stone. Things we did not know: Pat Bruno got the idea for the pizza stone from none other than Julia Child. “I was watching her make a pissaladiere, a type of pizza made in southern France,” he writes. “She suggested that the pizza crust would turn out a lot better if you bought some fire bricks from a building-supply store and lay them on a baking sheet, further suggesting that you might have to break a brick or two to fit them on the pan. That was my eureka moment. I thought, why not one solid piece of stone?” Who’da thunk? [Sun-Times]
